st170

Just wondering how hard it would be to put a st170 engine and box into a mk5 what fabricating would need to be done

The engine is not a problem as it's essentially "just another Zetec"

 

as for the gearbox, I don't have an answer, but I would think you're probably better off just using an MTX75 or IB5

surely if the engine will fit the box should just with maybe some custom shafts or something

I think it would be a lot of work seeing as the ST170 has a hydraulic clutch, so you'd need new driveshafts fabricated for starters...

 

Actually, I see that's what you said, lol. It's do-able, but I think it may be quite a job

shouldnt be super hard, there was a Fiesta a while ago with a ST setup on ebay, i was thinking of doing it myself as theres breakers on there selling the engine, box, loom, ecu etc for 1k

I think you may be underestimating the amount of fabrication work that would need doing, but yeah, an ST170 engine and 'box would be a great idea

been done , had various topics on it and it doesnt work cos you have to cut the front panel

That'd be a stupid thing to do

 

the weight distribution and handling would be a mess, it would involve cutting important structual parts of the car and the ST170 engine is far more suited to tuning/turbocharging

Fabrication for the box side of things- yes, but the engine is faily straight forward mounting from what TD on here said

The engine itself should be a walk in the park (relatively speaking)

 

same in principle as fitting a 2.0 Zetec

but surley the hassle of getting the driveshafts made up to take the st170 you might aswell fit the st200 and have the higher bhp and why is the 170 easier to turbo than the 200 i thought they where the same engine but just diff powers??
