ScottSummerhayes
I would like to know the best way about getting a better looking (not some weedy little 1" pipe sticking out the rear end!) and sounding exhaust. I want to be clear that i DONT WANT ANYTHING that is loud. Just a nice grunt and maybe a little more bass, ok and maybe a tiny little bit louder At the moment i just have to completely stock Escort 1.6 zetec exhaust, would it be possible to just get a larger back box? Also what is de-Catting? i guess it means to by pass the catalistic converter, wouldn't this fail all MOT's ETC. Would something like this work ok: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ford-fiesta-escort-m...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-CHROME-UNIVERSAL...1QQcmdZViewItem I wouldn't want anything chrome, raw metal would look good. Stu
I don't know of any 'quiet' aftermarket exhausts that don't have a polished tailpipe.
white_van_man
decat pipes basically remove the cat and replace it with a straight bit of pipe, gains are minimal and it will make your car fail mot, other option is a sports cat but unless you went for complete system its not worth it. also avoid those crappy universal exhausts that you linked to, they are a waste of time. if your on a budget get something like a sportex like this one... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Escort-1-6-zete...emZ160121223178

Perfect, i will leave it alone then! also avoid those crappy universal exhausts that you linked to, they are a waste of time. They do look pretty crappy dont they, The one that you linked to looks pretty nice! How would i go about attaching one of these? I don't know of any 'quiet' aftermarket exhausts that don't have a polished tailpipe. I don't mind it being heard, just not annoyingly loud (like all the chav'd up clio's & saxo's by me) and i think i will have to live with the chrome tail pipe. Stu
A magnex cat back or something would be reasonable.
white_van_man
A magnex cat back or something would be reasonable. yeah but don't think they do a system for the 1.6? unless the 1.8 system fits? the sportex i linked to above will be straight fit onto your system
Simonez
i had a peco bb4 on my old escort, and that was quiet just hummed, cheap and cheerful exhausts!
ScottSummerhayes
That Peco bb4 looks pretty nice, is it a 4" tail pipe? maybe that would be a little big... I love the sound of any scooby's, sound like that would be perfect! but i know that my shitty little engine is nothing compared to one of them.. yeah but don't think they do a system for the 1.6 I have seen a couple on Ebay! but they are pretty expensive (£100+) Anyone have anything else to add? Peco is looking the best so far, but they are super hard to find! All the ones on ebay are collect only and like 90+ miles away... EDIT: HOW DO THEY FIT? i guess you cut the old one off and weld the new one on? if so..how much will this set me back? Stu
You're not going to get the sound of a scooby. Not unless you put a scooby engine in it!* * not entirely true, but good enough for this! Edited August 15, 2007 by Stu

ScottSummerhayes
You guys are super helpfull, thanks! I will take a look tomorrow if its one piece or held on with a clamp. It will be a wee while before i get this done anyway, the car handling comes first (needs lowering + brake upgrade first) I will stick up some photo soon as we get some good weather!
