The shortened story of the GTi Estate

Lee has always said he wished he went with Fiesta RST engine or Zetec-Turbo instead of the I4-TB-NA route :thumb:

I sure do. But then alot of that was due to the fact I was expecting the rebuild cost, and other expenses of the I4  It's what comes from trusting 2nd hand engine I suppose :)

but yeah, should have turbo'd it

Hope my Estate will last long enough to valid some power upgrade. It has the handling, since shortwhile the braking power is spot on. Now I only need more power. Still no idea which route to follow, but TB's for sure.

Dont do it! I'm sure Lee will try his level best to talk you out of it!

TB on a 1.8 to get 165bhp required £5k for Ross iirc...

NA = not alot of bang for your buck :(

Hahhaha,

Lee can try , but won't succeed. Had an RST, bought mainly for track uses. All in all it lasted only one hour, then something broke and I had to stop. In normalday use same story, fixed one problem, just to go to the next a few days later.

I'm not going for max poweroutput. Just reliable everyday power. So 165 BHP sounds good to me ( also with that kind of power I can still still use my Quaife diff fitted IB5 gearbox).

Sure turbocharging would give better BHP / pound invested, but well how d I put it... I'm not a turbo man. Did that and didn't work out. So problably upgrade gonna be NA TB 1.8 or 2.0 zetec with chipped standard ECU or if wallet allows programmable ECU.

Taken from the for sale thread when Paul (foxdie) had it:

Since getting it from Lee i've done the following:

-The wiring has been completely re-done and insulated

-There was a major electrtical fault with the charging system which has now been sorted and now has a new alternator too

-The Throttle bodies have been stripped and re-built with a custom throttle cable and linkage system which solved the sticky throttle problem that i herited when i bought the car.

-The car has been re-tuned to around 191hp although on the road its closer 200 (becuase of the new cooling Mods)

-Red line has been raised to 7850rpm

-Fully integrated a Laptop into the ECU which gives digital read outs of the critical statistics, and live mapping. Laptop will go with the car.

-Had a brand new DECAT created to replace the one on the car that was falling apart.

-Launch control sensor has been installed and ready to roll but not setup (priced at £150 via Engine Advantages)

-All bearings have been replaced

-New Alternator and newish battery

-New fuse box

-New temp sensors and thermostat housing

Vital stats:

191 brake horsepower

Woah thread from the dead.

I was lucky enough to give this car a blast around some A & B roads while Foxdie owned it.

Handled like it was on rails and the throttle bodies sounded amazing and I mean pure sex wee.

Almost bought it myself, sometime wished I had as it was so unique.

Paul came to the conclusion of selling it when I beat him in my XE 4dr Corsa :)
