Craig855S
To start with we'll just talk about my estate tailgate and c pillar. there is rusta)round the washer nozzle, which is one the C pillar, the nozzle is now not held in the c pillar, its hanging outb)Round the wiper as it comes out of the boot, there is a circular hole, that is now rusting and growing into a hole of rotc)a tiny bit at the bottom left corner of the boot. for a)Can i grind all the rust out, back to bare metal, fibreglass it from the back and add filler to level it out then paint?? it wont come back will it?? welding new metal in sound nye on impossible where it is [ridding me of the nozzle] for b) can i cut all the rust out back to bare metal, then weld a plate in from behind and filler up til its level [ridding me of the wiper] for c) can i just sandblast the rust off then respray the whole boot (obv after B is done) Noticed the estates rear window needs wiping a lot in the rain due to its shape,RainX will solve that and i can bin the wiper will these ideas work, i want the rust gone (forever) and i dont want any cracked filler (if it IS GUARANTEED to crack, then i wont bother) the above wont cost me much DIY (cheaper than finding a clean boot and buying/respraying it)
plumber60
Cure rust.... Cut it out, weld a plate, smooth it over and repaint. Cutting the C pillar and replacing with anything other than metal will result in a dangerous car... Get the rear c pillar/arch replaced by a bodyshop.Get a new/clean tailgate. white_van_man
as jay says only real way to cure rust is cutting out the rusted area and putting new metal in, on non structural areas for quick repair you could grind back slap some kurust on fill over and paint but the rust will prob come back sometime, would last a while though, and thats def not advised for structural parts of the car
chaved escort
the only way to get rid of rust is to cut it out. Sanding it down and filling it is only a temp solution..
