December 1, 200717 yr You only need a tiny bit of black silicone sealant. Make sure the surfaces are MINT. Place a tiny bead of silicone at each end of the block where there is a slight ridge between the block and the oil pump etc. Should require just four small blobs (like smaller than a pea) in total. If you use the proper gasket and do it like this, with a MINT surface first, then you wont have a problem.
December 8, 200717 yr Author finaly got round to fitting the new sump gasket , only thing is my escort has air con, had to remove that and so much more just to get the sump even half way off, if i wanted to get the hole sump off then you would have had to taken the alternator off the ally hangers for it, power steering pump , what were ford thinkin, final managed to manoover the gasket up around the pick up pipe and in with some sealant, my face and arms are covered in oil, all that pain for just have a/c , take me back to my old rst cvh sump gaskets took an hour max Edited December 8, 200717 yr by SaMMy125
