hey,

in the new year im coming into a few quid so i was thinking what i can do with it, one of the options would be to 2.0 my escort, which would be pretty much the finish of it imo

or buy a rwd car so i can learn how to drift ever since the 1st time i seen a car drift ive wanted to have a go, obv on dedicated track days etc, im not one for messing about on public roads, not since i twatted my fiesta lol. Id be buying a sierra, either a 1.6 pinto and changing the engine for a 2.0 i have lieing around or buying a 2.0 twincam and leaving it as it is... now here comes the good bit with this, my dad over the 2 years of owning his sapphire cosworth has accumilated alot of spares + upgraded bits (blistien suspension, 4pots, spare cosworth bumpers among other things) and since he is selling it now, i can have all the bits for quite cheap, and pair them with the xr4x4 that my mate is breaking (LSD/disk brake rears) i would have a nicely set up car with the bits i can get my hands on, but i keep swaying between the 2 ideas and cant make my mind up.

so what do you think i should do?

either do the 2.0ltr or take that further as by the sounds of it your gonna have the cash

Go the Sierra route, this is how my 3.1l converted XR4x4 looked with cossie bits on:

Or Zetec turbo the Escort.

How much is your Dad looking for for his Cossie?

keep the Escort, do what you want to it and buy a cheap RWD that's quite powerful as standard = win/win

For a few hundred quid you could get a MK3 Toyota Supra, E32 BMW 735i, 4th Gen Jag XJ6/12, Volvo 300-series or something like that

ill be keeping the escort even if i buy the rwd, reason i wanted a sierra was because i know alot about them and i have alot of parts etc, i wont be coming into zetec turbo kind of money, but ill have change from the 2.0 conversion the way i want to do it.

my dad wanted £5k for his cossie, got a guy coming over from ireland to see it on the 10th, then hes buying either an rs500 or an escos.

i was thinking about a 323/325 e30 bmw, as they're quite powerful and also should have a diff, but if somthing went wrong i wouldnt know where to start lol.

im still 50/50 either way lol.

go for the sierra mate. i had them 4 years. so much fun in the wet. get one with a 7 1/2 inch rear diff a lot more of them about then the 7 inch diff. i would go 4 a 2.0i pinto. never been a fan of the twin cam motor.
Aren't sierras terrible at drifting? Well enless you spend a fair bit of money, just look at the fast ford drift sierra, not exactly a roaring success.

well, most of that is probably the driver and the fact its wet but doenst look like hes done much to it lol.

But thats in the wet, surely any rear wheel driven car car be able to do that.

What ever you buy will have a diff, but for drifting you want a Limited Slip Diff.

the sierra's have an open diff, which is why only one wheel spins up, the LSD locks and puts power through both sides

EDIT:

welding up the diff is a quick and cheap way to lock it so both wheels spin

yeah i know about LSD's, my dad has a cossie one out the back and the xr4x4 also has one, also the 323/325 e30's came with LSDs too.

apparently, welding the diff doesnt make the diff last too long, and the car becomes a bit undrivable, but the last bit doesnt really matter.

or i could just save the money towards buying a cossie towards the end of next year.

Correct, but if you are learning to drift I bet you will stuff it into a wall, start cheap, very cheap.

Sierra wins drift compeition

no idea of the mods on it though to make it a decent drifter, the usuals I suspect

Shame the E30 325i sports are so much money, loved our old one

When i said sierras i mean the non-cosworth variety. At least with the cosworth it has the power to back it up.

Dan you remember the Gilette advert, 'Power is nothing without control', oh wait a minute, you wont, that would mean you have knowledge of a razor.
