Posted December 7, 200717 yr Hello guys,After sucessfully changed the air and oil filters, I am planning to concentrate on spark plugs.Because my problem is still not sorted.engine stills make funny sound "chuck" especially when it is hot.it runs with no noise for a few seconds and again does that.I am getting low milage.I don't know whether it is called misfire. No starting problems. But revoulutions go very high for a couple of minutes on starting.engine never stalls while driving.Sorry guys , I am just a beginner hence basic level questions. Does it suggest a spark plug problem?. how often do I change the spark plugs? what should I look in spark plugs? What plugs suits my car?...........brand .............cheap and best ............and price. How change a spark plug if worn out? Any special tips must follow?. With ur help I jacked my car and change oil and filter.Thank you very much for that.I would appreciate ur help this time again.Cheers guys
December 7, 200717 yr Plugs rarely cause a problem on something like this. I'd get a qualified mechanic to look at it for you before you waste any more money.
December 7, 200717 yr Author I showed it to a qualified mechanic last week was said no problem. I forget to tell you that it wouldn't happen all the time when engine is hot.when he checked and test driven it,he said that he couldn't find any problem. cheers
December 7, 200717 yr Author from my memory all the problems started after cam belt change.after that it made funny noise from fan belt.changed fan belt................ok for a month.................then tensioner gone....................fitted tensioner.this problem is there since the cambelt change.can it be wrong tension in the cambelt???
December 7, 200717 yr can't really understand what your getting at by description, but maybe your timings out? a possibility maybe your cam belt was fitted a tooth out. Need to get it on the diagnostics i think though Edited December 7, 200717 yr by gwillgti

Need to get it on the diagnostics i think though yep if belt has been changed and you have this problem since then likely the timing is out
December 7, 200717 yr if I was you I would book it in at a local engine tuning centre and let them run diagnostics,if the timing is out they will know instantly, especially as stu is the man on here for engine stuff and he is scratching his head too Edited December 7, 200717 yr by 1pukkadeal
December 7, 200717 yr I'm not really scartching my head as such, it's just the description of the problem isn't very good even to speculate.
December 7, 200717 yr I'm not really scartching my head as such, it's just the description of the problem isn't very good even to speculate. well I know you know ,but as you said but by the owners desription could be anything from a broken plug lead to a bent crank Edited December 7, 200717 yr by 1pukkadeal
December 7, 200717 yr Author hello guys i am sorry for any confusion. can some body help me with checking the spark plugs and basicss abt them.cheers
December 7, 200717 yr I wouldn't bother mate, best bet is get it to a diagnostics and let them check the timing first, if thats ok then look at the basics, Im confident it's a timing issue though personally, which could be anything including ecu or sensor faults, but because of the "chunk" noise you described accompanying it, i supect piston slap, Due your belts been fitted incorrectly. If you had the belt fitted at a garage get it back to them to sort it. Now if i have interpretted your post incorrectly: Having read your first post several times now, it still makes no sense, you really need to explain this chuck noise better, is it like the car is chugging at idle (or tickover) at say 500-600rpm? because that could be something less harsh, the high revs at initial start up are they around 1500 and slowly drop down?, because this is meant to happen Edited December 7, 200717 yr by gwillgti
December 7, 200717 yr Author When engine is started from cold the engine revolutions are going up and gradually come down to normal speed.................no clue abt the value as there no meter on my car. this problem is there since I bought the car.it is not related to this chuck noise.Cambelt is changed at an MOT centre in Nuneaton.one month back fan belt and tensionewr changed at a MOT centre in halifax. Most recently after the cambelt change, it is making a chuck noise associated with shaking of the car.I also found that it lasts for a split second during which the engine revolutions go down. but engine doesnt stall. If I am driving on a motor way I cann,t appreciate this at all.if i am drving at low speeds and while at idle especially with engine hot, it is more evdent.thanks for ur help
December 7, 200717 yr Either let your car get checked over by a qualified mechanic so he can check the timing and adjust it if necessary, or get a diagnostics done on your car to check if the timing is out that way. Either way there is no point in changing the sparkplugs just yet until you do this.
