hi guys n gals, my clutch is juddering on bite in reverse and is starting 2 do it in 1st pulling away. so its knackered and i need 2 get a new one. i wont be able 2 do it myself, but is it difficult in itself 2 do? i had a mondeo before and the clutch went and ford told me they had 2 take my engine out then my gearbox, change the clutch and the put it all back again. about 350 quid in labour and thats cheap coz i know sum1 who works there!!
not sure about taking enge out , its easy enough on an escort just take the gearbox out ive done quite a few should take around4 hours at home if you know your stuff and then jsut cost you the money for the clutch(around 75 quid)
Yep duno why they said about taking the engine out, youll need to take your gearbox off and stick a new clutch in.
where abouts are you?

yateley mate, near camberely, basingstoke, near many other places! how much wud it be in labour 2 do it as im not confident enough with mechanics 2 do it!
im not sure what a garage charge to supply and fit the clutch kit , they normally say your flywheel needs skimming but normally bullshite to make more money , i changed Tommy T's clutch not long ago and charged him £60 as hes a mate im sure a garage would charge at least double that just for labour

Nath, when you drop your gearbox out...

...do you pop the drive shafts at the gearbox, or at the hubs? Ive always done it at the gearbox, but just wanted to see what others had done?

thats pretty much it mate, just undo the the plate bolts and remove the clutch and refit making sure its centred and the bolts are right torque and tightened evenly.

i take the driveshafts out altogether doesnt take long plus makes easier for when putting box back in i found ,

ah, then you risk stones/debris getting into your cup.

i personally dont think its any harder leaving the shafts in. personal preference i guess.
