Posted December 9, 200717 yr hi i have an escort 1.8 td last week i ran over some kids football (accidentally) it split my exhaust just before the centre silencer so i got it fixed by taking out the silencer then replacing i with a straight stainless pipe at a powerflow dealer in brum, there was no change in the sound of the exhaust from when it was ok, to when it was split an blowing, to now with the stainless pipe so i'm thinking is there any point for me to change the rear silencer for a big bore? will i get any sound out of it? any ideas???????

December 10, 200717 yr i personally wouldnt bother other than for asthetic purposes (but u can get that with a chrome finisher - altho diesel backboxes point at the floor so that'd look shite) Get a backbox if u want but dont expect it to sound good, its hard to drown out that horrible diesel rattle
December 10, 200717 yr I got a 4" rage backbox on my 1.8d van and it sounds really nice, sounds better when you dont thrash it just poddle around, alot of people have asked me if its a petrol coz it sounds really nice! i got it from a scrappers for £20 aswell! I did have a induction kit on it but put it back to std and it makes the exhaust sound better aswell!

December 11, 200717 yr I had mine changed a year ago, on my 1.8 TDi, with a full stainless steel and a straight back box and also a cone filter fitted. As said the engine noise will get 'deeper' and the 'whistle' of the turbo will sound more. I even felt it smoother when you kick the gas pedal but this could be because of the old creep silencer that I had before!!
