ecu plug wiring diagrams

I tried to google search the markings on the chips but nothing came up. How do you know what hardware the ECU has?

Can you tell if a chip was replaced, particularly the N7000... one? I'm asking because the J3 port plastic cover was missing when i bought the car and was taped as you can see on the pics so i wonder what previous owner/s may have been doing there.

By DCL you mean the pin 18 and 19 availability for live data or something else? What do you mean by 'what functions it supports'?

Many questions but english isn't my native and with so much info around i'm getting confused so to be sure i need to ask:}.

Yes it pretty much matches with L1E wiring diagram as well as with many more engines, even 1,4 which are totally different physically at least.

Wiring diagrams are mostly universal.

All Escorts pre-95 and post-95 have a number of engines and some of them on their side can have up to four different ECU setups /or wiring diagrams/ including w/ and w/o immobilizer (PATS). I've checked every single one year by year, engine by engine, wiring diagram by wiring diagram and still haven't found anywhere pin №30 - i mean i've found some on which it goes to battery negative, but mine doesn't, it goes somewhere else.

All the chips are marked with in house codes, so you won't find info. The N7000 (flash ROM) chip is sitting in an IC socket, which isn't normal, so it does look as if it has been taken out. The soldering to the socket should verify this. I see that he insulating covering has been removed from the J3 interface as well.

EEC-V is supposed to have more advanced diagnostics, so I'm surprised to see a DCL interface in there. In fact, I didn't expect to see totally EEC-IV hardware - I expected more of a hybrid.

I've never seen it go anywhere other than earth. Can't you trace it through? Immobiliser maybe?

A couple of days ago while i was google searching the markings on the ECU many US sites came up, cars using the same ECU in USA (maybe that explains why in ToleranceData there is "(83US)" on some wiring diagrams).

Also on the net and some diagrams i've seen pin30 to be used for connection with automatic gearbox, dunno for what.

Also i saw somewhere on cars with manual transmission pin30 to be connected to a switch on the clutch pedal (maybe like the one on the brake), dunno for what. More strange is that the other end of the switch is connected to the line of pin46 which is like common "ground" as i call it for some sensors.

Another strange thing i saw was that the octane adjust pin42 is usually shorted to ground if its 'enabled', but on some it's also connected to the above line on pin46.

Well, while i was checking the other day on mine the octane adjust pin42 wasn't shorted to ground but it was going somewhere altho for as long as i have the car i havent found anything like a shorting plug like i had on my oldest escort '93 L1E. So what comes up to my mind is to check with the DVOM if there's a link between pin 42 and pin 46. And also if that pin30 goes to pin46 and if there's a switch on the clutch pedal.

Another thing - as its an escort if i'm about to put a 2l engine from a mondeo i'll have to use a deep/dewy/desk ecu so in theory i'll have to rewire some pins - but as im checking around my loom matches all of the pins on the mondeo ecu's, so isn't this strange too?

In that case it would appear that pin 30 is a general use input pin, which is tied to chassis when not used. It's exact use would be fitted equipment and strategy dependent. This will apply to other pins as well. The clutch switch was to prevent the engine holding at high idle.

Not really. ECUs with similar ages will share a basic layout, so 2 non-PATS ECUs will have very similar pinouts. As said, the differences are generally where equipment differs. For example, the cooling fan may be controlled by the ECU, not by a thermostatic switch.

I agree.

So the pin 30 - false alarm. Finally the weather gave me 1-2 hours to wander around the car and i traced the wire. On the pin itself there are 5v exactly while the engine is running. But the wire goes to a plug in on one side, but doesn't come out on the other side. It's where the battery sits on RHD cars.

Now one last thing (i think)..

On my escort on pin 22 on the ecu wiring there is "collision switch". With connected voltmeter between pin22 and battery '-' this is what happens:

at no ignition: 0v

at ignition: the pump spins for 1-2sec and there are 0v while it spins, when it stops - there are 12v (i mean battery voltage)

at engine start and running: the pump is spinning all the time, on the pin22 there are 0v.

Now on the mondeo ecu there are two pins related to the pump operation - pin8 and pin22

question is: what must i give to pin8 as i already have pin22

a) direct bridge from pin22 to pin8

b) take from the fuel pump while its spinning and engine is running constantly +12v to pin8

c) something else

It's the last thing that stops me from hooking up the 2ltr ECU

I personally suspect option b) is the correct answer but i'm not sure. Here are both wiring diagrams but they can't tell me what the ECU wants to get on these pins exactly. As i see it there must be always +12v on pin22 at ignition (and even while engine is running) even after the pump stops after the initial 1-2sec spin, but i dunno..

If you compare the 2 wiring diagrams you will see that the basic fuel pump wiring differs. Pin 8 on the Mondeo is a sense input to detect a faulty relay or blown fuse. It doesn't exist on the Escort.

If you want to replicate what this does, then you need to run a wire from pin 8 to the fuel pump relay, as you say in option b. If you leave it open though, all that will happen is you get a fault code (556 Fuel pump relay primary circuit fault - AFAIR) flagged up if you read the codes.

You are not quite correct for pin 22 though. Take a look at the diagram. One side of the pump relay is wired to 12v, so the ECU side must connect to ground for the relay to energise.

Got it. :)

And what about the "Pulse Air solenoid", "EGR solenoid" and "Exhaust gas pressure differential" sensor that the mondeo has.

When i put the ECU in the escort which doesn't have them i suppose it will throw error codes for them but will they affect the work and power of the engine? If they affect it is there a way to hook something to the corresponding pins so i lie the system they're working?

Don't worry about them. If the items are missing then the ECU regards them as faulty and doesn't use them. You would actually cause issues if you wired dummy feeds up for these.
