  1. I wouldn't buy Audiobahn, all bling no substance!!
  2. You had 500W RMS speakers?
  3. The guy is over on Pistonheads, with a huge thread about it.
  4. Fusion are ok, they do cheap ranges and expensive ranges. Not a personal fan however.
  5. Spend as little as possible on your rear speakers. For example, spend £200 on an amp, £100 on front comps and £30 on rear coax.
  6. What about the Volvos? They are very good cars these days, nice inside, will be cheap enough and good economy.
  7. Depends on each city. Mancs I wouldn't leave my car out of my sight!! Chappers can comment on student life in Coventry, but generally - I dont think you need one. I really didnt, only for shopping etc, but there were ways round it - I was just being lazy.
  8. Apart from the association they have with chavs........ They are large (generally cheap) speakers and generally produce flappy farty distorted bass, the only exception being proper Genesis 6x9 subs. Other than that, they play treble, bringing the soundstage backwards. Do you go to a concert and stand with your back to the stage? No - so thats why the mids and treble come from the front and the (unidirectional) bass comes from the back. Scort - Mutant are average, just like any other chep brand of amp, I would stick with a proper make and look at decent 2nd hand stuff to fit within the budget (plus you get better SQ and higher real power generally). Sorry to be picky, but you say your £45 speakers are a bargain but you havnt heard them? I would assume they wont be as good as the infinitys, thats why theyre cheaper - not really a bargain. In ICE, as with anything, you get what you pay for. Woogie, dont worry about sticking with 1 brand - I would personally prefer to stick with a specialist brand for each item e.g. RE for subs & speakers then Stinger for cabling etc. Also, always quote the RMS power, not the Max - as it is meaningless.
  9. But the size is still important, it may sound ok in another box, but not as good as it could be.
  10. Bit late, but a few comments. Do not judge a stereo by what it does when 'Bass Boost' or whatever the mnfr calls it is pressed. Just because your ICE is 8/9 years old doesn't mean its crap - in fact it may the exact opposite - Sony used to be good back then!! Do not use RRP as a guide, use the actual price - RRP can be exaggerated to make a deal sound better than it is. Dont bother with rear speakers. For a decent simple first system, get a HU, a 4/3 channel amp and a set of front comps. All you need, for a good price. I have known simple systems to sound better than supposed good systems. Remember that ICE is about installation as much as/more than equipment lists. As previously stated, check out TA for sound advice.
  11. These were sent to me by mistake by the importer, instead of the 17cm ones (which I now have in my car). The retail price of these is around £90. The importer asked me to sell them and then give the cash back to him, so I have them up for sale. They are imported from the US, and although a relatively new brand they have good industry backing and a great deal of experience in the industry, they are certainly not cheap rubbish. They are boxed as new (I only opened the box to check that they were the right ones - and then closed it up again). The specs are: Custom injection molded, brushed aluminum poly-mica cone Vapor deposition technology High-grade cotton/poly blended flat progressive roll spider Precision machined and matched motor assembly with custom ventilation Proprietary backplate assembly (+/-) 2dB throughout usable frequency range 3/4" lighted titanium coated polycarbonate tweeters Integrated tweeter protection circuit Neodymium magnet Ferro-fluid cooling (+/-) 1.5dB from 3.5KHz to 20KHz Diameter 5.25" Impedance 4 ohm Sensitivity 91 dB Frequency Response 45 - 20,000 Hz Power (RMS / Peak) 50 / 100 watts Thats the pic off the website, it shows the LED hidden behind the tweeter that can be lit up (sounds a bit crap but does look good - although I havnt bothered wiring it up on mine as you dont see them behind the doorcards anyway). As nice as the grill looks - you dont have to use it (I havnt). They are very solid units with great build quality, the rears of the units are even nice looking - its a shame to hide them away! Included with them is the instruction manual/spec sheet, a OZ Audio sticker (wow!) and 2 lengths of speaker wire with terminals on the end. Anyway - if you need anymore info then just ask - I havnt put up pics of them as I dont want to open the box up - but I am at Trax this weekend (if my ticket ever arrives!) so would prefer to meet someone there. You will be able to listen to mine if you want to hear they are decent quality (although mine aren't amped currently - which is a shame as they really come alive when properly driven). I'm open to offers really.
  12. Had alloys and (I think) an Evo sticker in the rear door window
