  1. Are you losing water or oil. Worst case is it's your headgasket but don't fear if it is. It's a straight forward job on the escort
  2. Hi How does the clip work that fastens around the bulb? I was trying to get it off last night, eventually I worked it free. I'm unsure as to whether I've snapped what ever secures it now? Because every time I push it down with the new bulb in it doesn't want to clip to anything! I had my mot today and it failed on this. I'm worried now that I may need a whole new light unit. Any help would be appreciated Cheers
  3. Don't even need a heat gun in this weather. When it's a really hot day just walk up and they peel off like Sellotape. Took me less than 30 seconds to do the whole car a few weeks back! Pleasantly surprised!
  4. Just got my mate to jump up and down with me underneath it, it's the wishbones. Ball joint gaiters deteriorated, can feel the vibrations in it
  5. Update: I've now found if I pull the car quickly into full lock the cars engine nearly cuts out on idle. And the revs have to shoot up to keep it running?
  6. Hi In the last week my cars developed a creaking sound when it gets close to full lock; both left and right. The creaking noise only happens when the car is moving. Called the mechanic today and he said its the outer cv joint(without looking at it), the noise is coming from the passenger side. I've done a little research and it says that to confirm this you put the car in reverse on full lock and the noise should continue or get worse. The noise seems to stop completely in reverse throwing me into doubt? Any thoughts before I throw money at a new cv joint? Cheers
  7. Is it normal for that to happen then? Or is there a problem? Cheers for the help guys
  8. Yeh, I've got air con and have been using it all day?
  9. Looks as though its coming from the box containing the heater matrix etc. turned the engine on and water started trickling out if it. Is it a drain tube as its not attached to anything? http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f57/759759/4140BD59-3BE8-423C-B3EE-8015B9412B51-5208-00000417BC3404BA.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f57/759759/E9EBE600-7CC2-4A58-84B1-7443A6FE11B2-5208-00000417F119F7E5.jpg It's on a 1.6 escort finesse Cheers!
  10. Right changed the iscv, got pics, put then up later. Old one was pretty clogged up, and if a ford one so I reckon it is the culprit as its been on from new. Been disconnected about 3 hours now, quite like to use it tonight if possible. Any quicker way of resetting the ecu? Job took about 30 mins in total. Thanks for the help
  11. Thanks for the help. any ideas where I can get a VSS from? No one seems to do them new but ford; and they want 160 quid for it! Don't really like going second hand, but may have to at those prices. On another note, picked up an ISCV 15 quid off ebay, ford wanted 120 pounds so we'll see if the 15 pounds one stand the test of time...... . As regards resetting the ECU how many hours should it be left disconnected? Cheers!
  12. I dont know the state of the idle control valve, had it 2 years, not changed it which makes me think it could be clogged up; also nothing in the old receipts about it being changed. haven't looked at the brake servo, I'll try tomorrow. Didn't happen at all today which was weird. I'll pick one up just incase. Whats the VSS? How hard is it to fit? where's it located?
  13. Hi I have a 1.6 zetec mk6 escort, Tonight I've noticed when braking the battery light comes on for a second. Occasionally the engine cuts out completely and the steering goes heavy. I have to stop and restart the car. Any ideas? cheers!

Okay. may give it a miss then Stu, you seem to know your stuff. Would you not recommend giving it ago based on that guide then? I thought I'd just do lots of research and take it extremely slowly; like the way I've done every other job on my cars over the years. Seemed relatively cheap based on that guide and I thought if I buggered it up I wouldnt be so out of pocket.

Tutorial in the link. Appears quite straight forward. Considered it myself, think its when it comes to managment it hurts your pocket. http://www.dunge.eclipse.co.uk/ZTguide.pdf
