  1. No I'm not shitting it because the wheels aren't even on the car lol, I don't drive it daily with them wheels on, that's why I'm looking for 7" for the rears and the steels don't fit when it's lowered all the way anyway
  2. Police would he good to call, they've never said anything bad before when they've come, it's not driven daily on the 8"s as they rub too much anyway
  3. Thanks for the confidence. Alhough with the way i drive i dont see that happening.
  4. Just as I did with the shell info. funny that, the previous owner mentioned that too
  5. im just saying what i was told, anyway im done here i cant be bothered with this. ive been told by the dvla the cars legal, thats all i need to know.
  6. thats a good question, i dont know myself.
  7. Is there not another document from when it had a VIC test? How long ago was it re shelled? I dont have the document myself no, and i dont know the date when that was done, is there anyway i could find out would anyone know? ill have to ask my dad exactly what the dvla said as i only had a breif phonecall from him
  8. Right, my dad has rang the DVLA, they said it had a recorded Cat-b write off. but it is perfectly legal now as it has been repaired. so then i set about ringing the previous owner, who rang the previous owner before him, who said the car had flood damage and was reshelled. which had a vic test and passed. I have the log book, its insured, its MOT'd.. cant get more legal than that...
  9. true yeah when the coils are closer ttogether at the tops and bottoms of springs, but mine arent like that, standard mk1 ones have the same poundage right the way through hmm i dno, but mines definately stiffer on the cut springs anyway, i cant be bothered with this forum anymore, can someone ban me please? stops the temptation of me coming back on
  10. Secured how? A cable tie or jubilee clip is not sufficient and can be dangerous. A spring rate is chosen based on the ride height given once installed. If you reduce the length of the spring by cutting a coil off, it becomes softer. When you lower a car you need the springs to be stiffer, not softer, so by lowering it and softening the spring you're getting a double whammy which is no good for handling. i thought the stiffest part of the spring was in the middle, and as it gets to the top and bottom its softer?
  11. haha, I suppose so Sid..... but if it ever did, I would not like to be a passenger in it, would you? Nope. I said ages ago that I'd report it as soon as I knew it was on the road. hmmmmmm ok fair enough, im not saying im keeping the cut springs im just wondering what are wrong with them as theres many many people with them and i havent ever heard anything wrong happening with them, as long as there itted properly it will have coilovers by the time im driving it, saving up for them at the moment, ill be driving in march, theres far more dangerous cars around tbh, why dont you go report them? There are two reasons cut springs are not preferable:- 1) The spring no longer safely fits the mounts and may become dislodged at full droop (not always the case) 2) The spring rate will be too soft for the new ride height, leading to poor handling (usually the case) Ignore all the other paranoia. 1) what if the spring is secured into the cup? (which i have) 2) what if i have stiffer shocks and stiffer -50mm springs that have been cut? (which i have) im just wondering what makes them so dangerous
  12. Why are cut springs dangerous anyway? what could possibly go wrong?
