danposs86
Early Saturday morning, a few of us set off to Grisdale to watch this years Coppermines. The weather was crisp but, as promised by the weather man, there was no rain or snow and only a slight breeze. Which was nice. Even the roads on the way up were clear. Grisdale Forest had a frost on the Friday night which left the scenery looking stunning, snow on the green pine trees with a backdrop of snow covered mountains. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9926.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9924.jpg Our timing was pretty much spot on and shortly after the three of us settled into out folding chairs, we heard the sound of the course car charging towards us. First car, first spin. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9857.jpg Then the cars started coming thick and fast, inlcuding a vast amount of Subarus and Evos, with a Focus and Hyundai WRC in the mix of turbo'd 4 wheel drive cars. As you can imagine on a gravel rally, there were plenty of MkI and MkII Escorts kicking there arses out. Also loved the dedication of the smaller engine front wheel drive cars, with a Nova springing to mind as it went around the corner more sideways and kicking up more stones that the top end cars did. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9861.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9864.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9865.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9867.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9875.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9879.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9883_2.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9884_2.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9885.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9892_2.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9909.jpg I took the photo of the Proton and watched it driving away down the stage before I realised that there was a rather special car following seconds behind, quickly turned with the camera and just managed to capture this. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9910.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9929.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9935.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9938.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9940.jpg
danposs86
Part two. Once the cars had stopped coming through we retired to a usually quiet pub (this year the rally fell on the same day as their Christmas Fair) for some pub food and to get warmed up. Then we headed back off to the forest, this time to a second location. Some fog had started to surround the trees, however it quickly cleared in time for the cars. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9944.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9950.jpg Photos say a thousand words. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9947.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9956.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9960.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9967.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9965.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9968.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9969.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9972.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9987.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF9999.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF0026.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF0028.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn272/shows-2008/coppermines_nov_08/DSCF0002.jpg All photos here for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy. danposs86
It's in the Lake District, runs along side Lake Windermere. The Quattro was cool, but the driver was seriously holding back.
