RacerBoy Posted May 30, 2003 Share Posted May 30, 2003 Yes fellas!! Have just recently joined you mans over here since getting my mk6 SI. Converted from xr2 power to Zetec, aiiii!! Anyway, been reading about all your engine troubles and trying to diagnose my problems. Hope y'all can help me as have only had mine since Easter. Basically when I start mine up, at any time of the day and when hot or cold, there is this frequent rate coming from somewhere. Up until now have failed to locate it, thought was a rattle under timing belt cover!Now I fear the worst, it must be the cat converter right? For the first few minutes after starting her, she hunts around for an idle, reving from 500-1500rpm!! That cant be right? She settles quickly after a short distance though. Also, where does that power ranger lie? I have difficulties trying to establish- am still learning to drive it as is big difference from an XR2!Oh, its a Mk6 Escort si, 1.8zetec if i haven't mentioned that. Mk6 Si Ross Posted May 31, 2003 Share Posted May 31, 2003 A broken Cat sounds like lots of small pieces of a dinner plate being shaken about in a bag!!! The inside is ceramic so when it breaks sounds like a smashed plate!!!!!! I find my power at the mid to top end of the rev range, the Zetecs are gutless at bottom end.
