martygee
hi i have a ford escort 1997 1.6 with automatic gearbox,i have a problem and i cant seem to find much info on these gearboxes, but when i put into drive it jumps forward a little and tries to cut out, also when slowing down to go round corner it judders momentarily then is ok again, this is really baffling me.and really annoying other drivers think im kangarroing it im sure lol,any help would be greatly appreciated.also went to specialist gearbox company and they road tested it and they say gearbox is fine,i know the transmission fluid has been replaced before i bought car because fluid is still pink and clear.thanks again. rebellious
if its on the bottem, it'll be a CVT gearbox, it tranfers drive like a scooter with variable sized drums, obviously it doesnt use a rubber belt like a scooter, its a metallic band, and the drums being controlled by fluid pressure, really can be temprimental at best, but they have been fitted to alsorts aswell, rover 200's to new mini coopers. anyway, some dont have a torque converter like an auto, its totally fluid operated, by a pump in the rear of the box, (put left hand full lock on you should see that in the end of the box it has a ring of bolts in it) could be a number of things in all honesty, bit of dirt or even worn pump seals and drum seals in some cases the drum seals when hard, thus giving it a rough engagement, hope this helps
