Leeroy_Si
I noticed yesterday that on some gear changes, when i pressed the clutch in, the revs would hover around 2500-3000 rpm for several seconds, before dying back down to idle. It doesnt always do it, so i'm thinking it might just be something sticking, causing the revs to stay high for short periods of time. Any ideas what it could be? Any help welcomed
John
has it only just started doing it or have u only just noticed it doing it? i know mine does it when u come off the throttle the revs stay high for a second but then die down. we had a lot off ppl coming back when i worked on vauxhalls for the same problem. what it is with most modern cars is that it stays high beause it's actually burning off the fuel that is already in the cylinder thus reducing emitions etc. i could be wrong and maybe it is something else with your motor but it's just a thought
Leeroy_Si
Its done it on and off since i got it just over a year ago. But coming back from the footy yesterday i noticed it, especially at junctions, revving up to just over 3k. Thats the worst its ever been. Previously it wasnt really that noticeable, but when it was hitting 3k rpm it wasa really annoying.

RRX
Sounds like the idle control valve is startin to stick so not returning to idle quickly. not sure if the escort zetec's do it or not byt the 1.6 focus at work revs up about 200rpm when clutch is press the try and get the gearchange smoother aswell

dai
Had this problem b4 on my girlfriends RS, all I did was disconnect idle control valve, sorted out high revving but would also stall when coming up to junctions. Sprayed WD40 inside it, reconnected and it hasn't played up since. Dai
