Ringo_Mountbatten
Right, i've got a 4 channel amp, which provides 2x460w max or 4x 130w max. At the moment im using the 2 channel option and im powering up some JBL 6x9 speakers which are supposedly 300w. The problem is, the speakers distort really easily. I've tried it with the head unit powering up the 6x9s, so in effect they're getting 50w each and they work perfectly fine, i can put it on full and there's no distortion. But even if i just amplify the power a bit they distort still. So, why are 300w speakers distorting with little over 50w? Have i done something wrong?! By the way, im not giving them the full 460w each, ive turned the power down to about half way!

mr bass
Firstly the 300 watts rating is peak power rms is about 100 watts . what brand of amp are you using ? are you powering them off a single channel or are you bridging them?,has the amp any crossovers on ?
