Escort MK6 TDDI with a convertable top strut brace?

Hi,

Just picked up a Escort convertible upper strut brace to fit on to my MK6 Escort estate TDDi. Bolted straight on to the struts tops, but when I went to shut the bonnet the brace hits the under bonnet sound proofing just in front of the ducting for the inter cooler. What have people done who have fitted it to the same vehicle?

Can I cut a slot out of the sound proofing so the brace fits into it allowing the bonnet to close. But then the brace would be in the air flow to the inter cooler. Would this have any impact on the intercooler/turbo? Last thing I want is the turbo failing due to fitment of the brace  .

Or remove the sound deadening completely. But again would this effect the airflow to the inter cooler? And make probably make the engine sound even noiser!

Any advice and help would be gratefully received.

Rob.

I had the same problem with my tddi.

It wont hurt to cut the ducting but it will reduce the airflow a tad to the 'cooler. Dont remive the bonnet lining as that will render the intercooler useless infact itll turn a heater due to it being over the top of the exhaust manifold.

Ive got a bonnet scoop fitted so it isnt a problem for me.

Fit a front mount intercooler and have done with it lol

Thanks for the advice.

Thought I was never going to get a answer/advice to this question :D .

Been running around with the slot cut in the under bonnet insulation which was fine. I since have removed the rubber seal from the top of the intercooler as I was still unsure if I was getting enough air into it. I suppose this time of year as it is cold I should not get much trouble with heat drawn into the intercooler. But in the summer may be more of a issue especially as I use the car to tow occasionally.

Is it a big job to fit a intercooler to the front of the car?
