abs light 96 rs2000 2wd

Hey fellas.. Sorry if this is a bit of a noob question, but out of the 5 escorts I've owned this is the only one to have abs..

The abs light on the dash has come on, now the other day I heard a grinding noise comin from the passenger rear, I had my mechanic check it out, and found that the rear shoes were getting low and one of the cylinders was weeping, also yesterday I went to pull the handbrake on and it came up as normal but went very slack towards the top of its travel.. And is now not holding like it used to ( I've already adjusted It via the little nut at the side of h/brake when I bought it) could these be all linked..?? I was set to replace the handbrake, shoes and cylinders anyway ( since hearing the grinding, which I presume is the shoes sticking to the drum for a few seconds due to the weeping cylinders) and I'm just wondering am I going to have to replace something else as well??

Any advice is appreciated

do you have rear discs or drums?

I thought only the drum-brake model has ABS. Also, if he intends to 'replace the handbrake, shoes and cylinders anyway' then I'd hazard a guess at drums :pancake:

Marshy, is the ABS light on when you initially start your engine, but before you move away? Or does it just come on once you move off? I'd say you'd need to inspect the ABS ring which I think is tapped onto the hub, but can be replaced on its own. (if you google).
