Mk4 escort xr3i efi fault reader

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone could help me or point me in the right direction please.

 

I have a 1991 registered xr3i - it's the 1600 cvh with efi

 

It runs awful - randomly.

 

One day it will drive like a dream, the next - lumpy and stuttering, holding back etc.

 

I have replaced the coil pack, its had a full service to rule out plugs leads etc.

 

In the old days there was a gunson fault finder I believe it was called. But is there anything modern thati can buy to help with fault finding.

 

The car is also a bugger to start once it has warmed up and been turned off. It turns quickly but will not fire. I remember my mates Renault 5 gt turbo doing it and it was fuel evaporation due to the heat built up from driving it.

 

Is it all related maybe? The poor running and bad starting when warm? Plus the running problem is random and not always there.

 

Any help would be great please.
