Right well first of lets start with the amp ! :)

On the amp u should have a number of knobs, one whick says "gain"

To set up the gain on the amp, u should put the settings on the HU to flat/defult, so turn loud off, all the bass setting to 0 e.t.c. turn the volumn on the unit to 3/4 of its max ( u do this so that the HU dos'nt send a distorted or clipped signal to amp )

Play a song u would normally listen to with quite abit of bass, then turn the gain level up until u can hear the subs starting to either distort ( u will be able to hear this, basically till u can hear it in "trouble" ) or Clipp ( u will be able to hear this to, its sorta like a hummm, and the cones goes in and out like playing a singal freq ). When u hear this, turn the gain down just below when it starts.

By doing this u know that u can turn the amp this high, with out much problems ( oviously this depends on the song u r listening to, what u have the bass setting on e.t.c. )

Now this is set u can move onto the LPF ( low pass filter, this bloclks all the high freq playing throught the sub ) on some amps this is "fixed" so it will be set at say 100Hz, if u have a veriable LPF ( i.e a knob u can adjust, nmost go from 250hz down to 50hz ) set this in the retion of about 80hert. with this setting tho, it is best for u to have a play and see which setting u prefere the best.

If the amp has a bass boast leave this on 0dB, bass boast can be very evil! they can make your amp clipp earlier which in tern blows speakers, even a 3 dB boast can introduce clipp.

On the HU, if it has this option, set the HPF ( high pass filter, blocks the low freq like bass going to the speaker ) at about 80hertz, depending on the size of the speaker.

Have a play with the setting on the HU, but don't put the loud setting on.

after doing this is all about playing around and adjusting the settings, u may find there is to much sub bass, so turn the gain down, or u would like the amp LPF the sub abit lower/higher.

That all i can really say with out looking at the system and having a play :)
