simick1712
Hey, I wanna get some new speakers in the back of my car but can't be messing around with cutting dirty great holes all over the place, so I thought I'd just put some 5x7s in where the standard speakers are. The big question is will they fit ok? Or will I have to buy some adapters or something? Cheers, Simon.

BlairM
All you need's a nice sharp drill and some patience to drill holes all the way round for the 6x9's..come on if an amateuer like me can do it anyone can! Only thing is it leaves a damn big hole there for when ya sell the car on! (unless you leave the speakers with the car..na!
simick1712
okay cheers. I dunno what to do now, whether to go for the 6x9s or 5x7s. I asked a guy in Halfords about the 5x7s and he told me I'd need to buy an adapter for about £20, but then I get the impression he just wanted me to spend some more money... BlairM
An adapter for what ? The bullshite they come out with in there is sometimes unbelievable! I've just swapped 15 squids worth of stuff I didn't need (but was told I would..) for a Haynes Manual (bloody good read it is!)
Giorgio
All you need to fit 6x9's is a ring of mdf - fit the ring in the existing screw holes, then fit the speaker to the ring of mdf. Is easy, and the ring doesnt cover the speaker at all. 'Tis what i did anyways.
Cossie Dave
Don't bother putting rear speaker in if you've got a sub, spend your money on a good sub and excellent front components, if you insist on rear speakers move them to beside the back seats so that the sub vibration doesn't affect them as much

Colin
Sod those places mate............ Just bung in lots of sound proofing into the boot (old carpet did for me!), and its perfect, stealthy and outta sight, and turn up the speakers and the rear shelf hardly absorbs any noise so it all travels through! Just don't put the dog it the boot and kick up the bass!!
Escort boy
Also if you ever want to put your car back to standard you can get that plastic boot trim from the scrappy for a few quid and swap it within a minute cos its only held in by screws. Best way of doing it in my opinion.

Colin
Alas I don't got subs, but i've done this modification onto another mates Saxo now, and it works very well if he opens the boot up showing off his sound system etc with the extra mid range and treble at the back!
