simion_levi
I'm thinking of dropping on a Pi or Gmax -35mm kit soon, but I'm stuck on 14" alloys at the moment - and probably won't get bigger (won't go anywhere on my engine if I do!) Will I have any problems? Wouldn't of thought so, but be nice to know now rather than too late!
Phill
I'm still on 14s and lowered 40mm on springs, I've had no problems at all. It will put extra strain on the shocks and wishbones tho, so you might consider getting uprated shocks and poly bushes as well.Improves the handling lots
simion_levi
Yep, I will be getting a full kit - so will have uprated shocks. Not sure if I'll replace the bushes for deflex and/or go for new lower arms or not yet though. What do you think? My 'scort has done under 40k, should I- a) Replace the front (or rear too?) bushes for deflex etc b) Replace the lower arms for new & then deflex them c) Do nothing, the kit will be fine on the originals for quite a while (35mm drop, matched shocks - on a 1.4i about 40k mileage, 6000+ miles per year mostly local, some motorway, very rarely ragged.) Phill
If I were you I'd buy new wishbones, Deflex them up, and then wait until the ones you have now need replacing and pop them in then.
John
just drop it mate and don't worry about the bushes. i dropped mine -40mm on springs last year and have done like 7k sinse fitting them and have no probs with the lower arm bushes. i've also lowered m4tts and evvs cars and as far as i'm aware they have no probs with bushes wearing either

John
well it doesn't take much for them bushes to make like a banana and split anyway! got the invoices for when mine were replaced shortly before i bought the car and they were replaced at 21k and the car was owned by some old woman before me! southendboy
Possible stupid question, but how can you tell if these bushes are on their way out??
Ex-Finesse
My lower arms went within 2k of the lower springs being fitted Obviously bad timing and they were going to go soon, but the 17s and springs would have been the final straw. Consequences were two 17' tyres wearing like there was no tomorrow! Both were near brand new Mine had 40k on the clock too, this happened at 42k back in late November. I'd go for new lower arms with Powerflex bushes. At least this will last and the handling will be tight
Tythman
Dude, i'd go with (a) from what people are saying... Dont mean to hi-jack or anything but, my bushes have 'split'. What does this mean do i need a replacments? Can anyone recommend decent parts cuz i'm gonna be dropping 40mm on 16s?
