Right, when it comes to car modding, i enjoy reading about what people have done, but ive never really done anything myself, and a kinda lack the knowledge to do it.

But ive found a car i wouldnt mind spending some time on and i really wanna give it a go.

Im only 18, still in full-time education and working part-time, so of course money is an issue.

I want to make a system i can be proud of, not one of these bodge jobs that fall apart after a few minutes.

I have a mk6 Escort, and a starting budget of about £350 :( ( bearing in mind this is for a 'project' build, not what i can get for £350.

I have a pair of Infinity 6x9's from my last car, and i considered buying a 12" rocky fosgate boxed sub/amp deal from my local ice dealer, which was for £209, ( is this a good deal ? ) and building a stealth shelf for the 6x9, and buying a small amp to power them, because i was considering keeping the same headunit till i have the right money to spend on one i want, rather than spending some on one i dont really like for the sake of having it.

What do you think ? I intend this to be a prolonged project, so therefore i guess a prolonged thread, and help/advice would be greatly appreciated, and who knows, maybe you will be able to see the fruits of your advice and guidance soon :)

cheers, Rick

Most of the people in the know suggest you get a decent head unit, replacement front speakers, a sub and an amp to drive them all. 6x9s provide fill in the back and are not really best as the main high frequency speakers.

I'm working on a similar project, although mine is going very slowly. I have a Sony MD head unit that just died and needs replacing, and some Infinity 17cm components. Once I've added amp and sub to that (and a new HU) I'll be doing some high tech thing with MDF in the boot.

I popped into my local garage today, and had a word about what i want to do.

Cos of my budget, i came up with the plan to get a sub/amp, and merely put the 6x9 ( only using them cos i have them ) in a stealth shelf with a small amp to run them, rather than straight off the HU.

This is because i cant afford everything + a headunit atm, so i was going to set it all up and put it on the existing Ford headunit, not that bad, but with a Changer aswell.

Wont have any requirements on the HU to be running anything so it shouldnt be a problem, it also gives my car a 'stealthy' feel to it, maybe deter those wood-be thieving downsyndrome retards.

^^ Btw, twoc'ers stole my last car, a lil 1.1 fiesta, my first, so im slightly prejudiced towards them :curse:
