RickH
It says they recommend fitting specially shortened shock absorbers for more than a 35mm drop, is that neccesary, or is it just a marketing gimmick ?

Phill
I have Apex 40mm on mine, second hand for £45. Had no probs with them. However, it is recommended to use uprated shocks, because lower springs means more stress on the standard shocks. Therefore they're likely to wear out faster. You might want to consider uprated bushes as well, as these can go quicker than normal as well.
