Lexus rears

Well, I'm having a brainstorm. If I spoke nicely to my mum and dad I might get Lexus rear lights for my car.

What set the ball rolling for me was this. A guy at my work has a nearly new MG ZR 2.0TD in a bloody lovely shade of blue. He saw another ZR with the "snake-eye" lights and he decided to get them. He's by no means a boy racer or someone into doing his car up, he just thought they suited the car better than the standard lights.

Well, my car being a Ghia, it has a Chrome front grille and rear numberplate recess. I've since added a chrome surround to the front numberplate, and have thought about Lexus rear lights. I originally wanted the "ultra" style ones but having seen them in the flesh, i'm not that keen. Now I'm thinking about the ones which (I'm guessing) utilises the existing bulb layout; the mkI lexus light, shall we say?

Can anyone photoshop them onto the rear of a white MK6 escort with a boot spoiler? So I can get an idea of how they'd look? (Yeah, I know, mine doesn't have a spoiler in my sig, but it does now. Only my digital camera has flat batteries and I can't find the charger).

I don't really wanna do my car up too much. All I'm wanting to do is just make it more my own, but not so much that it stands out from the crowd. Make it look better. I just dunno if the chrome lexus lights will go with my basically standard car (all that set it apart from Factory is a rear boot spoiler, donated by a scrapped MK6 1.6 16v, and a 3rd rear brake light, donated by a scrapped S-reg 1.6 Si, and that was a pain as the shape of the boot on the Si is different to mine where the light mounts, so the dremel came out to modify the light to fit! Oh yeah, and a set of 15" Fox 6 alloys which I had on my Fiesta before my Escort)

Do you guys think it'll look OK? I also want crystal style side repeaters, but i'll save the pennies for them...

you mean the ones like you have?

I used to want the style you have, but now that i've seen them on a car locally, i actually prefer the other version. What I'd call the older version because they were out first. I think it's Matt who has them on his Si (one of the mods has anyway...)

Secondly, my car has been modified by me so it has both fog lights working rather than just the right hand one (Someone tell me why Ford made these cars so only one fog light work, when there are 2 fog light lenses. Wouldn't it be easier running a second wire rather than blanking off the left hand fog light). Will I be able to use both fog lights on the lexus style lights? Basically, the same as I did with my Ford units, just a case of breaking off the blanking plate? or don't they even have one?

Cheers

To answer the question about the fogs...

Costs far more to add wiring than it does to install a small blanking plate, the original Mk5's had two i think, but were deleted as a cost saving before the end of the Mk5 run.

Still dumb really, gotta get round to sticking in the wiring myself!

tis a piece of cake mate. Go to a scrappy and pinch the bulb holder and wiring from a scrapped car. Don't cut the earth, keep it with the ring on the end. Just slip the lot in your back pocket (I did)

Then, basically, join the positive side into the positive on your existing fog, and use the earth point for the wiper motor as the earth for the left hand fog.

Really, I'd have thought keeping the wiring the same on ALL escorts would've been cheaper and easier than having one wire for LHD cars and one for RHD cars. Oh, and having to have seperate moulds. One for RHD cars, one for LHD cars. unless they're all made with the blanking plate, and that's taken out depending which side the fog is.

Hmmm.

How come Vauxhall manage to use 2 fogs on their cars (EVERY car, Corsa, Astra, Vectra) yet their interiors are so cheap (I never use the indicators in the Combo work van. not because of the white van man image, more that I'm scared the stalk is gonna come off in my hand. so bloody flimsy!)

All the Vauxhalls I've driven it has been.

MK3 Astra (x2)

Corsa C

Combo B

my big bug bear is the flimsy indicator and wiper stalks. They feel like they're about to break off in your hand. ALL Vauxhalls suffer from it, even the new ones like the Corsa I drove.

I'm a Ford man anyway. OK, Ford have had some pretty cheap interiors too, but I still reckon they're a bit better put together than the Vauxhalls...

No offence intended, just my opinion.
