frew
ok, i have a mk5b, and i'm painting the bumpers tommorrow. well, the front bumper.. can't do the back one till i've got the ****ing towbar taken off...! i just want to know how to remove it. does it all screw in? can someone tell me where all the screws are? i've had a look, but it looks a bit complicated. how many screws are there?! and: whats the best thing to use to cut mesh? as i want to do the front grille, and maybe put a bit in the space of the bumper. i got it for cheap from autoparts (£12.. halfords charge £30!), so not bothered about wasting it. and how do you get a cigarette lighter out?? my car came with a duff one, so i bought a new one, but can't get the old one out. it seems to be clipped in or something. it mostly comes off, but on the right hand side (drivers side) its still stuck in its socket. unless i take the entire dash apart, i dunno what to do! any help would be appreciated

Lambo
There's Brebs, and Gary. There's also Big Stu from Ellon, did you go to the show at the exhibition centre cause you would have seen the cars there? The tow bar is easy enough to remove if you've got ramps, just 2 bolts on one side and three on the other, then disconnect the wiring and tape it up, job done. But if you don't have ramps most garages should be able to sort it for you.
frew
no i didn't go.. only got the escort about a month ago, and its been in the garage for half that i don't have ramps.. just a jack and some bricks! but i heard they were sometimes welded on, so a lot harder to remove? just that i couldn't see any bolts when i last looked. will jack it up tommorrow and have a peek though. do any of them drive a blue mk6 with mazda lights and 12 spoke alloys? coz i saw one of them outside halfords today, and was staring at it for so long i almost crashed
Lambo
Nah mate, don't know who that is, mines in my sig, all be it the cartoon version, Gary has a blue estate, Brebs is a maroon escort with a delta bodykit and stu has a blue escort with an aggressor kit, but his wheels are 5 spokes last time i saw him. Check under the boot carpet, if there's bolts there then its bolted on, if not then you may have a problem, good luck though.

Lambo
Brilliant, is it a mk5 mk5b or a mk6? What colour is the car as well?
frew
mk5b, radient red, 5 door getting a digicam tonight so will photo it then.. couldn't get the towbar off, bolts were all rusted up. wasn't in a very good position to do it anyway. will have to get a garage to do it, then i can paint the rear bumper.. although i'm considering just doing the rear bumper tonight with the towbar still on then just need some alloys and my cd player and i'm sorted
