kenjewell
Hello all, I have 3 problems with my Escort Finesse 1.6 (1999 model), it’s getting up to 99000 miles now, but it always starts first time The first problem is the car appears to wobble whenever I accelerate, it feels like a loose wheel although they are not loose. Someone said it may be the shocks but the car appears bouncy enough on each corner. The second problem is an annoying grinding noise when I pull off from a hill start. The third is the blower fan, I can hear the fan turning but very little air is coming from the vents even if the air-con is switched on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.KJ

Cyrix
How exaclty would the clutch casue movement in the steering componants Seriously, Check the lower arms, When did you last have them changed, If youdont drive your car hard they should last fairly long, mine tend to last about 3000 miles as i live down bumpy roads and corner hard. Ive got the same thing at the moment, as you change gear it pulls, whichever way it pulls change that lower arm, tbh there only £40 at motorfactors so id do both. Grinding noise when cars underlods, Possibly Clutch release bearing, is it liek a squeel or a grinding? Havent had an escort with aircon, more trouble than its worth, Do you have a tesing place? most companies do it for £15 locally and regas for about £40. Failing that i dont know, i try to avoid aircon anyhow.
Rob84
How exaclty would the clutch casue movement in the steering componants because, like i said, i'm almost certain my clutch is on its way out and its causing a vibration/wobble through the car and did he say specifically through the steering wheel?? i dont think so
kenjewell
Hi, thanks for your replies. The lower arms were both replaced last year, I have done about 14000 miles on the new ones. The tires were also replaced at the same time. There is wobble through the stearing wheel as well as the whole car, it is really bad at 45mph but also is there at all speeds. Cyrix
14k on wishbones, How hard do you drive your car, id say they would need doing regardless anyway, Tbh there down as consumables in my book especially on escorts. Power steered ones especially.
stoo2000
How exaclty would the clutch casue movement in the steering componants before my clutch was done it made my whole engine and right wheel shake and vibrate
kenjewell
Well I finally took the car into my local garage the other day and got the wobble problem fixed. It was a loose track rod and they also swapped the front and back tyres over. I will get the other problems looked into on the next service. Thanks for your replies :-) Ken. Lisa
Thanx for posting this topic as it is a real reassurance to me as my 2000 finesse only has 23k on the clock and i now feel happy that it will make it to 100k with minimum grief
