Teribus
Hi all. I recently saw a MK6 Escort Si in the scrappy with a 16v engine (no idea if it was 1.6 or 1.8 ). However, it had the standard white dials (i.e. they came from the factory), with the red needles. I thought to myself "well, my car has a white clock, but black dials. I'd like white dials. White car, white dials " My worry is, will they be compatible? I dunno if the circut boards are different on the TD to the 16v. The main concern would, obviously, be the glow plug warning light, the petrol car won't use this, so question as to whether there'll be one there or not. If anyone can help, i'd be grateful (especially if you're a TD owner and you've done this yourself) -T Edited September 26, 2004 by Teribus
marcus
id say they will fit, if not u can sell them on ebay for
Teribus
i'm not an EBay user, but i guess i could flog them on here They will physically fit, and i'd say most of the things should work. the speedo will.the rev counter should, as my TD has the EEC-IV ECU (I think it's that ECU anyway) which is the same as in the petrol cars, right? The fuel gauge and temp. gauges should be OK too. My only real worry is the Glow Plug light, that's all oh, and if the airbag light DIDN'T work, that'd be a bonus as mine either comes on or it doesn't. I know it's the seatbelt pre-tensioner connections, but it's just weird how sometimes it's flashing, others it isn't. -T Edited September 26, 2004 by Teribus

white_van_matt
I know that they come with bulbs in for all the warning lights - Traction control and Glow plug lights both have bulbs in mine, and it has neither LOL I reckon it would work mate, if not they are easy to sell And get that airbag warning light seen to
neil
You could take the actual dials out and swap them over between the plastic cases if it didnt work with the diesel lights but I am sure it does.
Teribus
Thanks guys. Yeah, I guess i'll just have to try it. I've never actually had my dials out, So I dunno what's what. But i think there's a light for ABS and other stuff, and like you guys, i don't have any of that! I know what's up with my A.B, it's them pi55in connectors under the seats for the seatbelt pre-tensioners. They go on ALL escorts, and the code is that the light flashes 4 times then stops, then 4 times and stops. and so on. You'd think, given the trouble they cause, Ford would've come up with a better solution? -T
BlairM
Not wanting to hijack your thread mate, but what do all of you (that have swapped dials done for your mileage counter (odomoter?) ??? Don't it look dodgy for future buyers ??
Ex-Finesse
I bought another complete unit with the clocks in (black faced). The front and back section come apart if you tear a sticker and push down some plastic clips. You can then unscrew all the dials! My original unit (without rev counter) had a different base to the new one! The plastic moulds were different, so I just put my old speed dial (with odometer) in place of the one in the other dial unit. You can't turn the mileage with your finger! marcus
You can't turn the mileage with your finger! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yes u can.......u take the speedo bit out and u can get to the rear of the numbers and just turn them back or forward to the desired milage, thats what i did
Teribus
I was gonna say, you should be able to turn them manually. That was gonna be my plan anyway! Turn the numbers until they read what i want them to. I might even be lucky and find a car that's done either 40,000 or 140,000 miles and not have to change them much! -T
BlairM
Ah so you can just swap the mileage...or move em!
