The Ince
If its an older escort (mk4) and like my old one, (G reg) then it can be quietened by fitting the later 1.3's (escort or fiesta's) rocker cover, as the later models are dual skin, while mine had only one. basskiddanny
Not much you can do, ive known people to change the tappets in the old MK4, but when i had my H reg one i never bothered because it only ever made it quieter for a few months at most. stevietec
The mk5b's have hydraulic tappetts dont they? so they dont need adjusting. The only solution is new ones. Their not that hard to change to be honest. Just get a haynes manual and follow the pretty pics.....
basskiddanny
If i was you i would just accept that thats how the 1.3 runs and you cant do much to make them any better. Dont worry about it, its not like theres anything wrong I understand why you would want it to run quieter. Currently im working on stopping as many vibrations and rattles as possible in my 1998 MK6 1.8 Si. All thats really to sort out is fitting the st24 rear better so that it doesnt rattle atall, and have my exhaust lifted slightly at the back then it should be rattle free pretty much. Anyway back on topic i wouldnt bother changing them, id just leave it, unless ur really desperate and just wanna try everything. It wont ever run as quiet as the 1.6 and 1.8 Zetec/ Zetec-E engines, just drop one of them in lol
