hill_y
yeh mines exactly the same. it usually only does it when its cold, sometimes it doesnt do it at all. apparently its a sticking tappet and costs a bom to get fixed. i was told it will stop when the weather gets warmer so its pointless getting it fixed for the price. Matt Escort RS2k
It is the idle speed control valve, either take it to ford tell them to test it or, take it of and clean it. It has nothing to do with the tappetts.
hill_y
cheers for that will do it myself. when its warm aswell if left on idle for about 4 or 5 mins the revs drop then jump back up continuously.
Matt Escort RS2k
Deo the idle valve, on my old car i have a 1.8 zetec and the valve was shagged, did exactly what you are describing. a new one is about £60. Btw the idle valve is at the very back of the engine and a right pain to get to

Ish
i cleaned the icv on a 1.6 si. all you do is remove it and spray carb cleaner inside it. idle was perfect after that
