stevenford_uk Posted March 26, 2003 Share Posted March 26, 2003 if you dont already know, i have a 1991 escort cabrio, 1.6 ghia injection, single point injection, cvh motor.the motor when under load misfires like hell, it hesitates then jolts like fcuk!!! like someone is just cutting the ignition, then it will pick up and do it again, its very irratic!i need this sorting, please help methanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
98gt Posted March 26, 2003 Share Posted March 26, 2003 Check the usual suspects like the ignition leads, plugs, etc. I had the same problem recently with my Zetec but it was my own fault. I power washed the engine cos it was filthy and water got into to the recesses for the spark plugs. Car ran fine for about 60 miles but then when I tried to accelerate hard it started misfiring like mad. stevenford_uk Posted March 26, 2003 Author Share Posted March 26, 2003 just to let you all know, the things i have checked are:plugs- perfect cond.leads- fine, no probsthrottle position sensor- had some butchered wires but they are now insulatedspeedo cable, electric sensor thing- was out and floating round but now all ok, speedo dont work tho.exhaust gas recirculation crap- seems to be working properly, disconnected it all and made no difference.electrical connections in engine bay- all ones i can find have been checked there is no water in the plug recesses, head gasket looks ok, but aint sure, all vacuum pipes seem ok, water level is fine, cooling fan dont work, oil level is fine.dunno what else i can check? please help guys i need it sorting before weekend!thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

stevenford_uk Posted March 28, 2003 Author Share Posted March 28, 2003 air filter is a k+n bolt on jobbie(very clean), fuel filter is being replaced today, needs an oil change and needs a service, dont know if timing is out but i doubt it coz it only misfires sometimes, worse when its under load.
