  1. lol.. +1 for Dorset though I do like South Wales. However, Dorset is fine to live in but no good for work. Its one of the top areas for wages vs unaffordability of housing and council tax is crazy high in most places. I live in South Dorset myself in no-mans land (Portland) and am moving during the coming year to Trowbridge in Somerset - the reason being plentiful jobs, higher wages and (despite being a perfect Bath/Bristol commuter area) MUCH cheaper housing. For any Navy chaps I can recommend Yeovil area, specifically Illchester which is pretty much a village made of married quarter housing. Nice area with good road connections.
  2. Wow. Going great guns there. Love to see a modded mk5. To think I've had my zetec sat in the shed since before you even bought the car and still managed to do nothing with it. What did you do with the trusty old 1300 hcs then? Drop it in the ocean somewhere?
  3. Do a crank seal or water pump on an HCS then do one on a zetec. Strangely the zetec seems faily close to the CVH - the block castings even have some of the same threaded bolt holes in them. For working I'd defo take the CVH or pushrod over it! At the end of the day none of its rocket science. Why we love Fords.
  4. Not really, but I see where you were going with your logic. I guess money talks. I can't really offer any sensible argument as when you look at BHP/£ it really cant be beaten. Just feels odd putting an old lump like that in a new car. But you'd have a marvelous piece of kit. No reason you cant turbo the zetec or even fit one of them yank focus SC kits - yes.. money.. I know..
  5. I stuck a load in with a normal wash load - along with some 'car use' hand towels (just as good for polishing imho). The misses went Fcuking bananas. Came out clean but everything had a wierd smell to it. Next time I'll double up on detergent.
  6. FPMSL!! LOL.. Already looked through various manuals and by f*ck have they made some jobs needlessly hard. I've done basic rubbish on CVHs and OHV lumps - heads, cams, water pumps etc..usual stuff... all these jobs look massively harder on the zetec. Teach me to go 'modern'
  7. I find it amazing folk are using RST engines in 'new' escorts. Yeah they can make good power, easily and cheaply but its a bit of a dinosaur aint it? Sludgy old CVH on a dizzy vs sleek new Zetec. What about changing induction on your current lump? Tbs (or even carbs) on better management could release a bit more power. What spec is your current lump? Is it even 130 spec? HO manifold, cams, larger body or is it standard 1800 Zetec with some minor mods?
  8. Used new bolts from Ford. I thought they came with threadlock to stop them working loose in usage. I guess it could work as a sealant. Never done anything with zetecs so no idea on oil leaks. Wouldnt surprise me though! Nothing with a Ford badge on it does.
  9. Done. I rammed a screwdriver between the fly and block, so it caught on the ring teeth. Was an old shitty wooden handle one whch helped, the teeth bit into the wood. All done now.
  10. Sorry, I meant flywheel bolts, I know cluctch bolts aint to worry about, sits v snug on them dowels. Never bothered with torque settings on a fly/clutch before but wanted to go all swatty and read the book for once. Its something like 105nm iirc... didnt really see the need as the bolts are threadlocked anyway. Will try the rope thing.
  11. LOL!! You wont find any of those new-fangled devices around ere. Socket and bar is about as tech as it gets.
  12. Simple noob question. After an 'easy' way/top tip type answer. Doing up the clutch bolts. Whats the easiest way to lock the fly? Lumps on the floor at the moment being built up... no 'car' in the way! Tried jamming something between it and the floor - but the sodding engine just lifts up! I saw some pics online where they had a bar suck through a hole in the fly - mine doesnt have any holes that go right through it so this aint an option.
  13. Lol! Sorry, teach me not to to follow the thread too closely. Interesting motor regardless. Looking back at the pics it appears the original poster actualy has an IAT sensor screwed in where his CTS should have been. Maybe the original installer was dyslexic?
  14. Invisible gearbox? lol.. Be interesting to see some more pics/info on this. Always interested in RWD conversions. I wanted to put a zetec in the old Minor til the rust ate it out from under me, water rails were stupid money too.. Hope the situation for convo parts is better now. Whats the DB9 plug for? You got a custom ECU in there too? Couldnt you have just read the faults off it and ID'd the problem to start with?
  15. On the flip side to all this, as a potential buyer its great. Can get some really nice 'new' petrol motors for pennies. Anything diesel always costs twice as much.. pug 306, £250 maybe? TDI 306 - double it. Thanks but no thanks, I'll have the weedy 1.4 and save my money. Diesels are also more to tax - unless you can find a 1400cc one!! So, its not all bad news. I could get myself a minty 1600 Finesse for pocket change. OK, so it aint gunna get the TDI mpgs but who cares - its so damn cheap I could get a new one every 12 months when I get bored of the colour of the seats. Sucks to be a seller though.
