VanMan_Jas
I have converted my escort van brakes:Front: Sierra Cosworth 4WD Calipers and vented discsRear: Sierra Cosworth 2WD Calipers and solid discs The problem is with the handbrake cable, which i'm forced to sort out due to pending MOT... I cant fit a sierra hand brake cable as it is too longI cant fit a van cable as the end which connect to the caliper arent right, as originally they fit to a drum. At the moment the cable is 'tied' around the handbrake lever on the caliper. On a coswort, the cable has a metal loop on the end. Has anyone encountered this before? Is there a way around it?? Carl160180
You need a cable from a mk5 rs2000 to fit your van mate as these have discs on the rear rather than drums Hope this helps
VanMan_Jas
sweet. VanMan_Jas
Got the cable. The cables ends are right. But the cable mounts differently to the van one.Do i need to get a rs2000 handbrake bracket and also the cable which attaches the handbrake lever to the handbrake cable?? Craig855S
how did u fit the cossie discs to the back,do they just plop strate on the poverty spec beam?
Carl160180
You may need the bracket but if the ends are right then it should connect up to your handbrake lever cable no porblem, the only way to find out for sure is to have a look at the one thats on now
VanMan_Jas
how did u fit the cossie discs to the back,do they just plop strate on the poverty spec beam? To fit the cossie discs you will need the hub carrier also. But other wise, they went straight on. Just the hassle with the handbrake. lol
mal16vSi
Got the cable. The cables ends are right. But the cable mounts differently to the van one.Do i need to get a rs2000 handbrake bracket and also the cable which attaches the handbrake lever to the handbrake cable?? Jason There are ,to my knowledge, two different types of mounting at the handbreak end; 1)A 'half moon' shape as fitted to mk5 and mk5b models.2)A rectangular box which fits the later mk6's. Any help?

mal16vSi
No mate, you just need a handbrake cable for a mk5 RS2000, it's a half-moon one. I had loads of bother getting a cable for my mk6, everytime I ordered one I got the half-moon type, and I needed the rectangular box type.... Are you after a Ford one or a motorfactors? I'll have a look in a bit for the Ford Finis code if you want. If you go to motorfactors get one for a '92 RS and it'll be a half-moon.

VanMan_Jas
Yep, I had a fook on getting my cable for my mk6, I ended up having to order one for a escort rs2000 4x4/cosworth, But the one you need as Mal say's is a mk5 rs2000 Thanks for the replies. I got one (rs2000 cable) from a motor factors and is had the rectangular block. I didnt know it was available in half moon, so looks like im goin back agen lol. I was going to change the actual lever to accept the new cable, but im happy if i dont have too lol. Thanks guys.Jason Oh one more thing... at the motor factors they only had engine size such as 1.8 16v, they didnt show models names such as rs2000. So which engine size am i after?1992 Escort rs 2000...... is it 130ps or somethings like that? Thanks
Fran
the RS2000 engine is a 2.0L, the 130ps is the 1.8L Gti which would probably be the wrong fitment?!?
mal16vSi
You want the one for a 2.0 150bhp Escort.
