that is because the audio signal is tell the speaker to go out but its coming in instead, so u get the reverse effect of the sound. Although i thought speakers have different size connectors on the + and - to prevent this

also put all the settings, bass and trebble to 0 and try the volume on its own see how loud that goes before the quality drops

i dont understand what u mean. there is only one way possible to wire the speakers up. they are both wired up correctly.

The speakers have a + and - terminal with different connectors on. However wen you took the old speakers out and snipped off the ford terminals, u may of connected the + wire on the speakers to the - wire in the car.

This could also be because you're trying to power up 330w speakers but your head unit is only providing you with 50w per channel. You might want to invest in an amp if you want loud, crisp, clear sound.

It shouldnt matter even if u have an amp its like Rich said:-

Even on an amp it will be the same

Just try wiring one speaker rite one wrong it WONT do any damage and see the difference in sound. sound should have more bass.

Even if your head unit is 50 watts should still sound quite nice, Mine does :D
