Lowering a Mk6

I'm after a lowering kit for my escort but i don't know how much to drop it by and what kit to use.

Should i go for just springs or should i go for springs and shocks. How much can i lower it by with 7x17's on so that the car is still practical and that they won't rub in the arches when fully loaded. ?(

Theres 2 kits that i have looked at, G-max have just taken out a 40mm drop springs and shocks kit and there is also a spax kit which drops it by 35mm. Not sure which one would be better, any suggestions (is one better than an other and if so why). Not bothered about cost to much at the moment, gonna spend £200-£300. Can anyone recommend any other kits which are reasonnably priced.

I've dropped mine 40mm on springs mate and it doesn't rub....if you can afford it go for a full kit though cos it will make a difference as for which kit depends on what you are looking to spend

does it rub when you have people in the back ? or have you had your arches rolled or flared slightly ?

yes fellas,

was looking into dropping my car too -mk6 si.

I rang up a few suppliers from work and they asked if my car had abs, which it does. do any of yours?

Basically, the rear abs works on a trip switch on the rear shocks and its affectiveness is determined by the ride height. The dude reconed that a 35mm drop was the safest to go with springs, anymore would require a full shock kit and maybe some fabrication to the abs trigger.

Or so I've been told. Correct me if im wrong

ive got mine lowered 30 mm and it dont rub but there is one bad thing when i have 2 people in the back of the car if i go any faster that 40 mph on a country road the side skirts rub off the floor at the back end, i had to find out this the hard way and all thou it was a bit of damage it could have been alot worse. So i try not to have 2 people in the back of me car now.

if you were told that by someone who works in the trade then i sugest to you that you never ever again go and ask them for advice on anything :P

rear ABS works like and other ABS, when the sensor picks up the wheels has stopped rotating it then activates the ABS which unlocks the wheel etc etc.

sorry for the lack of technical terms there but it's all kinda gone outta my head at the moment due to stress of working on my own car :nutter: :nutter: :nutter:
