EscortNreg
Well as you may know i have been geting some loud creaking coming from the pasanger footwell whenever i pull of or do a crawling stop... So iwent and had a good gander and noticed oneof the track rod ends looks well... bust... Could this be the cause of the creaking? These pics were taken when the car was on level ground. The off side TRE... looks to sit on ok... http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n36/madbidz/S1051835.jpg The near side TRE looks seperated and off to one side... http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n36/madbidz/S1051841-1.jpg This is thw wishbone on the offside so im not hearing any noise from this one.,... BUT,... have a look at the ball joint... It looks rusty as hell and the near side is LOADS worse... http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n36/madbidz/S1051837.jpg Does the whole lot need replacing? While im having the work done my 300mm setup is gonna be fitted as well... So i may as well get all that needs doing, done. onehotminute_191
replace the usual bits, wishbones, drop links, track rod ends. and if you like the anti roll bar bushes. check the suspension top mounts too. they may make a creaking sound if theres play as with most other parts. while you got it all apart if you can remove the shocks and check the tops for wear. if all is good just re-tighten them. replace the rest and see if it goes away. just remember to do everything up properly. ScORTED
surface rust on bits under the car... shock horror that all looks ok, your creaking probably a wishbone
escort4x4
Creaking problem can be caused by a faulty wishbone rubbertop mount bearing failuredrop link/anti roll bar rubber perisheddrop link bar ball joint wornwishbone ball joint worntrack control rod end play Id start working on rust treatment mate, looks like them parts in the picture havent been looked after. If bank balance allows you do the whole front end work, this way you know its all new and cant/shouldnt go wrong for a while to come. your drop link bar in the picture with most amount of rust looks like its been on the car for years,

stoney
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!they are all ok mate if the creakin is comin from the floor as you explained then i would get some pics of the lower suspension arm bushes also if you follow your anti roll bar to the subframe you will find that there is a rubber bush either side try spraying these with some lubricating oil you could also spary your lower arm bushes to mainly the rear ( bigger ) ones but remember do each bush then try it as you wont know wich one to replace other wise. chrisxn
Can I point out, he said in his other thread that it only makes noise when he's pulling off, and there's no noise while he's driving. How can it be the suspension when that will be working constantly while the car is moving?! Can I request gettin a friend sitting in the passengers seat with a video camera and make a video of just a normal drive. Then we can hear the creak and we'll know when it occurs. Might be the most helpful option Edited April 4, 2009 by chrisxn

Might be the most helpful option course you can but i had this prob and it turned out to be the anti roll bar bushes as when you are moving off the car is under most load and thats when things happen. i could be wrong as i have never worked on a car in all my life though

I might be completely wrong though!!! I guess we'll see! Wanna make it interesting HAHA!

t-man
from the pics everything looks fine. a little rusted but to be expected on an old car. i would check the wishbones first by jacking up the car and checking their condition. there is more than likely a knackered bush in one of them
