Rear tyre noise

Hi

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

I have recently been experiencing alot of noise from the rear of the car(1.6 Ford Escort T reg) . I took it into the garage and one of the tyres was badly 'cupped'. I have had the tyre replaced which has helped however the noise is still there.

 

It occurs gradually from around 20mph and get louder as you get faster. The type of road surface also effects it. I have noticed that the back of the car is not level, i.e the passenger rear sits higher than the driver rear. Could this be the problem.

 

The sound is quite a low droning sound.

 

My tyres are relativly cheap ones but i feel the sound is alot louder than could be attributed to tyre noise

Could still be a faulty bearing even if there's no play in the bearing itself, Jack the car up and spin the wheel, if there's a rough rumbling noise then it's the bearing at fault. A bearing supplied and fitted at my place is around about £40 but obviously different garage's have different prices but that's a guide for ya mate ;)

Could still be a faulty bearing even if there's no play in the bearing itself, Jack the car up and spin the wheel, if there's a rough rumbling noise then it's the bearing at fault. A bearing supplied and fitted at my place is around about £40 but obviously different garage's have different prices but that's a guide for ya mate ;)

 

I had a listen before all i could hear was a slight catching sound which i guessed was normal as you can hear it on all the wheels. I will have a closer listen in the morning thou.

Need to spin the wheel pretty fast and stick your ear close (but not close enough to rip your lobe offLOL) and you should hear a faulty bearing :thumb:

lol, i just had a quick look and i think you might be right. However a mechanic did check it the other week and didnt notice it if thats the case. I will take it in tomorrow and get them to have a look.

when the mechanic checked it, the bearing may of been fine, but with moving parts things can fail or start to fail at any point, you dont need to spin the wheel up that fast as you can tell if its the brakes slightly binding or the bearing, brakes would have a grinding noise and bearings would wur or whine. my rear bearing has started to fail, and cause of putting it off for a few weeks its now screaming. Best get it done as soon as because total failure is when the bearing seizes up, then the wheel locks up, dont want that happening
