waynegc123
My escort brakes was really crappy! you can stand on the pedal and wouldn't feel like I'm braking hard...got ST170 callipers and if I press to hard I lock the front wheels
16Vrhys
so whats required , is it the size of the disk which increases the stopping power? or more hydraulic pressure needed and impove the master cylnder?
waynegc123
Well its a bigger piston in the calliper and the disc surface is 300mm instead of 240mm. Still have the normal master cylinder.
16Vrhys
having bigger brakes fitted has this lead to a spongey brake pedal ? read that some have had problems with increasing the brakes and then the M/C isnt up to the job to supply the brakes? how much am i looking at for pads , disks and calipers for a decent set up
waynegc123
Not at all, the pedal is much stiffer than it was. That kinda hard for me to say, I paid R3000 for mine(think thats 280 pounds) thats for uprated discs and mintex redbox pads. I really have no idea how much it would cost(I'm from South Africa). Sure someone on here could help with that ? or have a check on ebay? I got callipers at the scrapy and bought the discs and pads new hope this helps mate! sidrick
Pedal travel is caused by old brake fluid. How's yours looking? Most Escorts I've owned, the pedal has been pretty solid.
16Vrhys
Fresh fluid has been added , new rear cylinders and shoes adjusted up to two clicks , new front pads and disks.
waynegc123
Isn't the pedal travel also caused by air bubbles in the system ?
16Vrhys
also bled up till no bubbles found , forgot to mention.
