McRic
ok heres the prob, once my cars started within 5 mins the temp gauge is up past half, in a short queue of traffic its nearly at the top of norm. Seems to rise fast as feck then the fan kicks in but when the fan goes off tis still above half way. On motorway drivin just sittin nicely at 60 - 70 its still up past half..................any ideas? I've done a coolant change and fitted a new thermostat and temp gauge sender but with no change I aint losin any water or power
John
possible air lock in the system? have u checked it's the correct thermostat? there isn't any pipes being crushed of twisted around anything else?
dai
Exactly the same problem on g/f's RS. All I've done is put a switch in parallel with the fan switch. With it on, the temp stays exactly half way, no matter how long you leave it running. Dai

Cat
Thats reason i got rid my old Mk5, changed thermostat, new fan switch, head gasket etc etc.... only took 5mins traffic and it'd over heat, ended up going round with no thermostat in at all, and fan switch constantly on..... My mechanic was so fed up with the car he was gonna torch it !!! So i never did find out what was wrong, Bit useless info really, but thought i'd share it with u all LOL
GAVIN
If youve got no pressure in the system then it will get hot very quick, as the higher the pressure the higher the boiling point. if youy say the water in the tank is cold it means its not circulating, have you checked the water pump is working??
