antcull Posted October 16, 2011 Share Posted October 16, 2011 Ok I have a 1999 Escort van with a 1.8 TD engine and i need a alternator but i am gonna get one from a scrap yard, The original one has no partnimbers on it (the van has been painted and the alternator has over spray on it). My question is will any mk5/6 alternator work? or will a mondeo mk2 altornator work as these are more redilly avaliable? DaweV6 Posted October 16, 2011 Share Posted October 16, 2011 No, you need the same (diesel) one. Mondeo doesn't fit, Focus or Connect TDDI doesn't fit either. I changed mine last year (seized, casing cracked) - new ones are between £50 - £80. Basically you have to search for diesel Mk3-5 Fiestas and Escorts.
