tommiv
Guys, I'm new to the forum and have got a real issue that I can't seem to resolve?I converted a MK3 Escort XR3 non injection to a 2lt Blacktop Zetec running twin 40's. ST 170 4 branch manifold, fuel pressure reg, red top facet rally fuel pump. The engine was bolted up to the XR3 CVH box and I believe it was an 1.8 zetec flywheel used, I think the clutch is RST. ESC red front for the timing, off a mk5 Escort fuel injection. As you'd imagine it pulls like a train.......However I can seem to get a starter which has to be front mounted due to the use of the CVH box, to reliably start the car?! I'm currently using a Mondeo starter but it doesn't always turn the engine over and had only 2 fixing points due to having to cut one off as it wouldn't fit in place?! Any ideas guys its driving me around the bend!!

The wear looks like its only just catching the edge of the flywheel?
Ahmotorsport
All CVH's suffered with too much heat (from the exhaust) getting to the starter. I expect you're having similar issues. As for pinion engagement, you'll either have to modify that one or find another to suit.

I guess its just finding someone to modify the pinion? I have tried loads of starters and not one seems to be even slightly similar unfortunately?!! Perhaps you could stick the starter on the mill and shave the mounting face down a couple of mm. Providing there is plenty of meat there of course.
