I am currently planning to spray my Escort mk 6 and was wondering if anybody has any tips on how to spray it myself? as i am having financial dificulties( from buying a new bodykit) so i cannot get the job done professionally. And does anybody know how much paint (litres) i will need for a good job?

Many Thanks for your help!

Id be temped to save up and get a body shop to paint it. unless u know what ur doing and have the equiment.

my bro added all the stuff you may need to do it and it'll be a good £1000 for you start so that money you can get it done right first time and less effort, and if it goes wrong you something to go back on, uulees you have experencie in paint spraying, not as easy as you think,

"not as easy as you think" damn right!

My spraying experience = a dashboard fascia, and a set of wing mirrors, and it was difficult to get a quality finish on them without bodyshop equipment (although I don't think I did too bad).

Personally unless you've already got the costly equipment (oil-free compressor etc), and some good experience, i'd pay a bodyshop. I'm all for a spot of DIY, but you may be kicking yourself if you try it. ;)

Yes Fellas,

I work in Halfords geeza so have plenty of resources to hand. Spoke to my mate who mixes up car paint and he recons you'll need about 3 litres or paint for a full respray but thats just the top coat, obviously you'll need a base coat and several layers or primer to even services up etc.

Spraying really aint too bad if you have some experience and have plenty of time and patience. I think thats the key to getting a good job done.

My sister had an accident in her metro and left it to me to sort out, had to beat the wing out and respray, was quite pleased with the finish.

Buy your self a Haynes manual, they do one especially for body work and have a read and judge for your self the level of difficultly, but as some of the guys have said, a job is so much easier if you have the right equipment and facilities
