Phill
Buy a Haynes manual.Take the relevant bolts off, take off the drum casing and check to see if your brake shoes are worn down. If so, get new ones, grease up the relevant bits, and put it all back together again.Make sure the cylinder's not leaking too.

John
chock the front wheels of the vehicle. jack the back end up and support it on axle stands. release handbrake. remove wheel. remove dust cap from center of drum using a hammer and chisle or screwdriver but be carefull could break it! get a 30mm socket and a bloody long swing bar cos they will be tight and undo the hub nut. once the nut is off it's just a case then of pulling the drum off. it might need a bit of therapy cos they tend to stick on a bit but a few hits with a hammer should see it off. once off u'll probably find it's full of brake dust in there so really u should be wearing a breathing mask at this point (cheap and nasty disposable one will do just fine) get some brake cleaner, halfords or somewhere like that should sell it, give the shoes a good clean down with that then let them dry and give them a rub over with some emery cloth. do the same with the drums and u should find all is nice and quiet again refitting is a reversal of removal see i even got all the health and safety bollox in there too

I'm also finding that my handbrake seems to be really loose, would doing that help with that too? Cheers.

John
hand brake adjustment - either A. prise the brake shoes outwards a couple of clicks with the drums removed or adjust the hand brake up on the cable by removing the sleve that fits around the hand brake and tightening up the 10mm nut that u will find under there. average adjustment will lead to the hand brake coming up 3 - 4 clicks
