TD tuning

okay, i´ve got most of my bodywork sorted now (17s, mesh, morretes, new custom front bumper, st24 rear arriving any day) and I now have my car booked in for a custom exhaust (5" slash cut) but now want to turn my attention to power. Does anyone know if I can fit a bleed valve to increase the boost or do turbo diesels not work that way??? also, anyone know of anywhere that supplies tuning parts for a 1.8td mk 6 engine?

  • 7 months later...

I am running a 1995 Escort TD Ghia (90ps model).

I have had the boost increased to 1.2 bar using a bleed valve (make sure the output of the bleed valve can be piped into the turbo inlet otherwise it makes a horrible mess in the engine bay), a high lift fast road cam & a large bore exhaust (quiet but free flowing).

All of this however has only given me an increase of about 5-10bhp X( , the intercooler on these escorts is to small to allow a decent power increase :nutter: .

I have been told by www.noswizard.com that i can run a stage 1 NOx kit for about 20-25 bhp extra but am waiting for a stage 2 which includes extra fueling that is in the pipeline (50-100+bhp) :sonic: . I will prob add water-methonal injection before April for a track meet i have.

I am looking at lowering it 30mm all round and using adjustable race shocks, as it will be used on a track occasionally & would love to improve the wallowing that all Escort Ghia's have.

Hope this is some help.

Christ! :suprise: Can't believe someone actually replied to this after all this time. Sadly since I put up this post I stacked my car the day before my exhaust was made and about 2 weeks before the bodyshop trip! Car is now almost standard cos I wrecked my quads and the rest of the stuff had to either go back or be sold to pay for repairs and my 17s need new tyres!

Cheers for the info anyway mate, once my car is sorted back to the way I was getting it then I will follow your advice :thumb:

You could stick a 1.8 petrol in it but i prefer the 15-20MPG i get when thrashing it around a circuit. I could only manage 2-3MPG in a petrol :) & i can still keep up with some of the gas guzzlers on the track.

The late reply is coz i am a newbie, just searching for TD upgrades.

Just tried to fit the lowering kit to my car...... :drunk: Stupid spax, told me the Mk5 and Mk6 were the same setup. I now have to put everything back to how it was so i can return the kit and let them find me the correct set. (atleast i found out one of the driveshaft boots had failed, saved me a few quid.)

P.S does anyone know the correct code for the spax kit?

Anyway, the uprated brakes are going in, grooved with pads rated at 800C working temp for track day. Well at least i should stop.

My mate had a lot of work done on his 306 TD, went from 90bhp upto 150 bhp & stupid ammounts of torque. The list consisted of :

Boost increase from 9psi to 25psi.

Improved & uprated head gasket.

Increased fueling with modified injection pump.

Gas flowed head.

Engine re-build (pop......oops).

uprated & modified turbo.

3 intercoolers (usually ran with 2).

modified intake system.

custom exhaust.

Modified suspention.

various cosmetic changes.

It was a monster of a car that sounded like it was on drugs all the time.

It recently had an intimate moment with a bridge so is not running anymore.
