It just fools the ECU into thinking you have more airflow than you really do, hence leaning off the fuel a little. This is the reason they recommend you dont use them on turbocharged cars, because it'd most likely melt your engine. In actual fact, what this resistor is doing is a very crude example of what a Unichip does - as in fooling the ecu into thinking something that isnt there, so it compensates.. Its a bodge. Hack.
