Turboarse
Was driving back from my mates yesterday and all of a sudden all the power has gone from my engine. Put your food down in any gear and it accelerates up to about 4000 rpm then it is as if it has reached its rev limit. It drives okay if you keep the revs low but floor it and nothing happens. Is this an engine management problem?

Turboarse
wot about ur maf? do u know if that is running ok?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've no idea mate unfortunately my knowledge of engines is very limited. Going to have to take it to my local Ford garage and get it checked out.
Muzz
Unplug the sensor next to the airbox and see if it runs ok then. If it does replace it, you can do it yourself it is only one clip and it comes off. Dont leave it disconnected for too long though as it will make the engine run rich. I'd explore all the avenues you can do yourself before taking it to Ford because they will just rip you off.
ploppy
indeed. a ford dealer will charge u the best part of 60 notes whereas u could possibly pick up a maf sensor at ur local scrappy for about a tenner.

Predator_Aod
Had the same problem. Well annoying. It was my KAT. If you get it checked and it is the Kat make sure you replace it with a sports one. e.g. Powerflow do the hole system for £300 Stainless St. with a life-time warnty. (if im not mistaken) It's gonna cost nearly as much to replace it with a standard one. I made the mistake in replacing it with a standard one and now Im well gutted. theresa
Will be the Mass Air Flow (MAF) meter. Just done this with mine and I had the same problems as you. My car is a lot better now. £20 from my local scrappy for a MAF.
sidrick
I'm with pred, actually. Sounds like a blocked cat. Unbolt the cat, see if it revs higher than 4k, 10 minute job. either £15 from a scrappy for a 2nd hand one, or go for the stainless system with the lifetime guarantee. Turboarse
Turned out to be the CAT afterall. Ford quoted me £350 to replace it but managed to get it done for £150 at a local garage.
