Bearings!

I think I have the same problem. It's not a knocking noise like yours, it's like a whirring/wearing sound like a tyre rubbing on an arch. Sounds a lot at 40mph upwards, and the only way to cure it is to drive at 115mph when it becomes unnoticeable ;-)

It becomes louder at 40mph when driving into a moderate right hand curve, which I presume means it's a left side bearing. Thought it might be a warped disc, but braking doesn't quieten or louden the noise. It's not drive related as flooring the clutch doesn't affect the noise.

Double haylp!!

they aint that expensive or that difficult to change, I did all my sus, rear brake shoes, rear brake adjusters, rear brake pistons and the bearings all together.

EDIT: bumping noise dont sound right, bearings are a whiring sound, have you checked for something in your tyre?
