Stu
This is to anyone who is running 6.5" (?) components in the front of their Mk6.. I believe you have to use some adapters to run these? Does anyone have any comments/advice or photos of this install? Whats the max mounting depth? Thanks Stu
RickH
Didnt use adapter, not sure how deep its mounted either, but they fitted without adapters !
dnrc
You can get 6.5" adapters from most car audio places and possibly halfords, then just drill a hole in it for the tweeter if you're gonna put that in the adapters. Screw the adapter to the door and screw the speaker into that. Job Done. However, i'm most likely going to take mine out and make my own adapters out of pieces of MDF. Should give better sound. Andy_GTi
I'm running 6.5 comps up front but i chose to use door builds as it makes the speaker sound so much better (180 quid) pricey but worth it from Audioscape
Stu
I ended up getting some of these... .. I'll let you know how they sound tomorrow..
Stu
... which are promptly being posted back to the store tomorrow as they're a zillion miles from fitting.. a lot of fabrication would be required to get these mounted! Can't be arsed.. Instead i'm going to return these (both pairs) and obtain a single pair of decent 6.5" JL co-axials for the front and suitable adapter plates.. sime73
i tried some alpine type r's and they are too deep, they catch the window so take note of the mounting depth

neil
I have 6.5" Infinity 6500cs components in the front with the tweeters in the door mirror adjuster panels
IAN.D
I've 6" JBL in sound good. I used a corsa adapter just enough to miss the window and still let the door panel fit. Others may work better I just had some in the shed. i'll take some pics if you need....
Stu
Cheers guys. The thing is, my goal is a direct replacement affair. I'm happy using adapter plates (for the Escort), but any fabrication is just out the window as far as i'm concerned. I ain't that fussed to be honest. I sent back the speakers I bought on Sunday and i'll have a chat with the shop on Thursday to see what we can sort out. I was kinda hoping to get some adapter plates and 6.5" 2-way JL co-axials to just drop 'straight in'...

You will then just need to buy another pair of cable adaptors to change the rear speakers without the hassle of cutting wires and thus enableing you to change the system back to standard very easily if you decided to sell
